This week’s Fact Residency concludes with a select showcase of boundary-pushing DJs and collectives from Seoul.
This month’s Fact Residency has presented performances from some of the artists behind Seoul Community Radio, including an Against The Clock from MPC wizard Lionclad, a Patch Notes session from ambient duo Salamanda, a virtual set from Y2KN2 x Nose Studio, and a dance in nature led by sound designer and Hatha yoga instructor Beck Junghyun.
To round off the week, we present a special livestream featuring more of the station’s roster of artists and DJs, including JNS, Neko-Future Club, Net Gala and Seesea. The stream runs from 9am-2pm BST/5pm-10pm KST – check out the timetable below.
Honey Badger Records label boss JNS delivers a showcase of the label’s latest work, having featured a multitude of artists across house, techno and bass-driven spheres since 2014. Check the label’s Bandcamp for its series of compilations (now approaching its fourth entry) for a timeline of how the Seoul scene’s overall sound has developed.
6PM: NEKO-FUTURE CLUB (YUNG GIRL x BAMBOO PRINCESS)
Nek-O Future Club is a duo and collective stylized as ‘the future we have dreamed of, the virtual paradise of the 23rd century’. A cyberpunk life that explores the future by weaving future sounds of various genres and inspired by #nekocore.
8PM: NET GALA
A regular at Seoul’s ‘Cakeshop’ and member of LGBTQ collective Shade Seoul, NET GALA showcase their new EP out on SVBKVLT – Shinpageuk (신파극), named after a form of theatre from 20th century Korea. In contemporary context, Shinpa is a synonym for ‘tears and overwhelming emotions,’ but when it was first introduced to Korea, Shinpa was used to express progressive political views, cover social issues, and later the melodramatic domestic tragedies.
Another member of LGBTQ collective Shade Seoul, SeeSea concludes the stream with a typically visually dynamic performance: her sets are all about the energy and high BPMs and genre blends.
