Flash back to 2012 and Derrick Rose at the time was the biggest star in the NBA not named Lebron James. Like the stock market when it rises you pay. Well Derrick Rose’s stock was at a all-time high and Adidas paid for it. Adidas signed Rose to a $185 Million dollar 14 year contract. Back then it seemed like the right choice, but hindsight to say Adidas got robbed because Rose never gained his 2012 form again because major injuries.
Sport’s Illustrated released 40 pages the contract Rose signed with Adidas and we must say the lawyer Rose had hired was awesome and definitely made this work in his favor.
What the contract revealed was not only is Adidas still paying Rose but they are also still paying his brother and his best friend salaries. Jon Wertheim is reporting that the company is paying the point guard an annual retainer $12 million per season from 2012-2013 through 2016-2017. For this current season, he will be receiving $11 million.
“It also included annual royalties up to $6.25 million per year, as much as $4.8 million in annual appearance fees and use a private plane,” according to Wertheim. While crafting his deal, it looks like Rose did not leave out those closest to him. Reggie, his older brother, makes about $250,000 to $300,000 a year from the deal as a consultant. His best friend, Randall, also earns an annual amount between $50,000 and $75,000 for consulting.
We also seen that Clauses were written into his deal that includes deductions if he did not make the All-Star team. Rose has not made the team since 2012.
