Cardi B Flattens Taylor Swift's Streaming Record on Apple Music

In a head-to-head battle, Cardi B’s Invasion Privacy easily surpassed Taylor Swift’s Reputation.

Both are skilled in dissing.  But Cardi B’s rougher attacks are proving more potent.

And these artists couldn’t be more different.  Taylor Swift got her start with the help wealthy Pennsylvania parents.  Belcalis Almanzar, aka Cardi B, first started her career after discussing her stripping career on social media.  Her Bronx-infused delivery and rugged rapping made her an internet sensation practically overnight.

Two artists with incredibly different backgrounds — and music.  Now, it looks like Cardi B’s street smart rapping is eclipsing Taylor Swift’s pop-friendly one-upmanship.

Invasion Privacy, Cardi B’s debut album, now holds the distinction being the most-streamed first-week album by a woman on Apple Music.  According info shared by Apple with The Verge, Invasion Privacy doubled the previous streaming record — held by Taylor Swift’s Reputation — by the middle the week.

It wasn’t even close.

In fact, Invasion is now the fifth most-streamed album ever on Apple Music, passing The Weeknd’s Starboy and Ed Sheeran’s Divide.  The album has also racked up over 100 million streams on Apple Music.  Not bad.

It’s all part a quickly-ascending career for the Bronx rapper.  After ‘Bodak Yellow,’ B kept the intensity going — most recently with a ‘Finesse,’ and 90s-retro collaboration with Bruno Mars.  Just last weekend. the rapper performed at the Coachella 2018 on the Main Stage.

Cardi B made her musical debut in 2015 on Shaggy’s remix his single, “Boom Boom.”  Although she failed to win any awards, she was recently nominated for Best New Artist and Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the 2017 BET Awards.

Separately, Apple Music is also enjoying its own rapid ascent.  The platform just hit 40 million subscribers, which doesn’t even include trial memberships.  That is part a narrowing gap between Apple Music and Spotify, which last announced 71 million paying subscribers.
